🇳🇬 The important conversations about the future structure of Nigeria have been taking place behind the scenes. It was not actually a decision to break Nigeria into separate countries. The proposal was for restructuring Nigeria into 17 autonomous/federating regions while Nigeria remains one sovereign country. 🇳🇬 WHAT HAPPENED IN ABUJA? The Concerned Citizens Assembly (CCA) held a three-day deliberation at NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, from 17–19 August 2026 (some reports describe the wider conference as running through August 20). At the end of the meeting, the Assembly issued a communiqué calling for Nigeria to be restructured into 17 autonomous regions. THE 17 PROPOSED REGIONS ARE: 1👉Akwa Ibom 2👉Ane Igala 3👉Apa-Agba 4👉Bendel 5👉Caliphate 6👉Cross River 7👉Gurara 8👉Hausa 9👉Igbo 10👉Ijaw 11👉Kanem 12👉Lower Benue 13👉Niger 14👉Plateau 15👉Rivers 16👉Savannah 17👉Yoruba The proposal also called for 80% of revenue generated within each region to remain there, with 20% going to the Federal Government. It further proposed regional police and substantially greater control by the regions over their internal affairs. And importantly, the Assembly stated that this is not a call for Nigeria to disintegrate, but rather a proposal for a much more decentralized federal arrangement. Whether you support this idea or oppose it, this is a conversation Nigerians should not ignore. There are clearly serious discussions taking place about the future of our country. 🇳🇬 Nigeria remains one sovereign country under this proposal.
