@instituteofhumananatomy: 🫀 A heart attack doesn't just hurt — it permanently takes part of your heart with it. Here's why: when a blocked coronary artery cuts off blood supply to the heart muscle, cardiac muscle cells start to die. And unlike your skin cells or even your liver cells — which can divide and regenerate — cardiac muscle cells cannot be replaced. Ever. Instead, those dead cells get replaced with scar tissue. Non-functional scar tissue. Which means the heart's pumping capacity is permanently reduced. 😔 Your body's cells basically fall into three groups: Always dividing — skin cells, blood cells Can be forced to divide — liver and kidney cells (this is why you can donate part of a liver and it grows back) Never divide — neurons, and cardiac and skeletal muscle fibers The most specialized cells in your body are the ones you can least afford to lose. so if we know what is causing the problem in the heart , is there any way we can prevent it?

What if you can’t move a lot on really bad days? Laying 8-10 hrs a day with some movement? What happens to your heart doing this for years? My friend is really sickly and can hardly get around because of POTS and other issues. Not only to worry about blood clots but a weak heart? She stands up and walks 10 ft heart rates up, but not from POTS but from act of no movement…🥹 How can she build her heart stronger? Please and thank you.

I always find it annoying how we have billions of cells that regenerate and replace themselves yet arguably one of the most important muscle in the body doesn't 😭
