@gabriel.nussbaum: The UK pension crisis nobody is talking about 😮 A new government-backed pensions report found: 📉 Around 15 million people may not be saving enough for retirement 💰 Around 45% of working-age adults are not currently contributing to a pension 👷 Nearly half of those not contributing are actually in work 📊 The minimum workplace pension contribution is just 8% and that’s often not even on your full salary 👨💻 For the self-employed, pension saving is even worse The scary part? Many people think: “I’ve got a pension, so I’m sorted.” But having a pension and having enough pension are two very different things. I went on @Sky News with @Wilfred Frost to discuss what’s going on and what might need to change. Genuine question: How confident are you that you’re saving enough for retirement, and do you even know how much is in your pension?
how can people be expected to save for a pension when every spare penny is taxed to the hilt

We are taxed on income, taxed on pensions and our children are taxed on any pension we pass under inheritance laws. There’s no incentive to save into a pension when we’re struggling to live, even when working full time

Why is my pension company making 100's of millions in profit but my pot earned £70 🤣 yes my pot has gone up with the cash I've put in but the returns don't seem to filter down to me & if I die within 5 years of taking my pension they keep 50%. Rather put the money in the bank where I can see it. No one's pension pot is guaranteed to be worth anything when they come to retire. Just lining corporations pockets again!

No one has enough left to save because we are being taxed to death on everything and the cost of living is leaving nothing left in our pockets

There is no incentive! State pension will surpass the tax threshold next year so even £60 a month from a private or workplace pension will be taxed! Have nout you’ll get help when you need it

A lot of my team, opted out from pension sacrifice schemes, because they can’t afford living now, so they can’t think about the future.

This government only wants to tax the people. They are not really interested in incentivising the public to invest in pensions.

as less people are buying or will pay off the mortgage before retirement. most people will need more pensions than previous generations that paid off the mortgage before the pension age.

They’ve started massively taxing pensions - it’s utterly pointless having loads in your pension. The tax on it means it’s worthless.

If you pay into a pension and be responsible you’re looking at the government taxing you in retirement. The state pension is close to being taxed. Private pensions take you over that limit. Working all your life to be taxed is ridiculous. No incentive to pay into a private pension. Also the cost to live means you have no money left to put into a pension. The government need to stop taxing people who retire at state pension age.
