@nostalgicsound_ng: On Monday, June 19, 1972, the Lagos State Ministry of Education ordered the temporary closure of all schools in the state after a partial strike by teachers. By Tuesday, June 20, pupils began an unscheduled holiday, as schools in the capital and across the state remained shut. . According to reports by Reuters, “Some children went to school, but there were no classes to attend.” Police dispersed students and parents protesting the shutdown outside a Lagos school. The teachers were demanding a one hundred per cent pay increase for the lowest paid, who earned about 200 Nigerian pounds (233 pounds sterling) a year. They also called for a range of allowances and other benefits. . . 🎼: Ranti Omo Eni Tiwo N’se - Kayode Fashola . . . #NigerianHistory #1970s #LagosState #TeachersStrike #NostalgicSoundNg
