Many people view Jaramogi Oginga Odinga's refusal to assume power before Jomo Kenyatta's release as a political mistake. I see it differently. To me, Jaramogi demonstrated rare statesmanship, selflessness, loyalty, and commitment to justice. At a time when many would have chosen personal ambition, he chose principle over power. He believed that Kenya's struggle for independence was bigger than any individual and that true leadership required fairness and respect for collective sacrifice.
