Heather M Jordan :
When my son was in elementary school he wanted to start playing sports. I was totally on board. I’m 100% all for supporting my kids and what they wanna do. So the season was fall, so football was what was available. We signed him up, got him all the equipment he needed, I even made it a priority to wake up early and practice with him; throwing, running, doing drills, etc. He played football and although it was flag football )because again he was an elementary school) he was able to score a lot of touchdowns, helping his team to win many times. However, after the game the kids lined up and to all of our surprise, every child got trophies. The loosing team as well. This reason is actually what caused my son to stop playing sports. He said and I quote, “what’s the point of trying, practicing and working so hard morning noon and night, to win just so EVERYONE can get Participation trophies. It takes the fun and sportsmanship out of the game” which again, I agree! Participation trophies are the worst idea in history and teach kids ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about sportsmanship or integrity. In fact it teaches them the opposite! It teaches them that no matter how little or hard they work, everyone gets one. When they absolutely should not! Again, it teaches kids that even if they lose, they still get rewarded.
