land value tax is a great idea. let's scrap council tax and business rates. And sell land at current rather than future value (with caveats for working farms).

In Norway, council tax is paid by the landowner. If that is different to the person living at a property, it’s still paid by the landowner - not the tenant.

I’m not sure making home owners pay land tax is a good idea, buying a home is already miles out of reach for most ppl adding a land tax into the mix is just going to make it even harder & landlords will just pass that on to renters.

Why does everybody think council taxes should be linked to the property value? It has nothing to do with it. A single person living in a mansion does not utilise the same council amenities as a semi with 5 people in it. It should be linked to occupancy

LVT is a fine idea if it actually means lower taxes elsewhere - it must be part of a wider reform not just a bolt-on extra tax on homeowners.

I assure you that as a homeowner, I do not fear a land value tax. I own the tiniest parcel of land. Meanwhile, I’m paying council tax out the Wazoo. Gimme a land value tax any day.

Land value tax is a good idea. Tho would need some kind of exemption for farmers as otherwise literally no farm would exist. Tho said exemptions would need to avoid making farm land a asset class (more than it currently is)
