Last names really dont mean much. Just think only a quarter of your grandparents were from that name. So even if you only go back 2 generations 3/4 of you heritage has nothing to do with your last name.

Found out all about my last name on Ancestry. Even found out it was different before my ancestors came to the United States.

My family is from a tiny little town in extreme southern Norway. But I didn’t need ancestry.com to know that. We’ve always known. My grandfather came here first then brought his parents and siblings. He was a merchant mariner, his father too. My grandmother was an accountant. My great grandmother raised animals. I knew my great grandparents on both sides. We still pass this down. My son knows. He doesn’t need a dna test to know where he comes from.

My dads side of the family has an entire book about our past 6 generations. My mother’s side was talked about often. It was wild that there was so much accuracy in my 23 and me results. I expected a surprise in there somewhere.

Clark here also , we've been here since the 1600s. My grandparents were farmers after my Papaw retired, he was a carpenter that built oil derricks when they were wooden.

I thought I was German too. My last name is Swiss, but my grandfather’s family came from Prussia, in an area that is modern Poland. A city called Łódź. It certainly explains why I have Ashkenazi DNA.
