Ty loves Julie for who she is, Julie loves Ty for who she thinks he should be.

Do we think that if Ty goes through with writing his novel and it bombs/ doesn’t do well, Julie would be supportive in him trying again? Or would that just be it? He is unextraordinary?

Ty’s gonna write that book after they break up. He’ll have something to write about and it won’t be on Julie’s timeline.

I am team "they should make up" but Julie really thought that is 100% just Ty's fault while simultaneously being surprised that he thinks he does a lot for the family (which is true) they both need to talk

Accountability is not a humiliation ritual. It’s taking account of what your part in the conflict is— and that also includes being clear about what was not your part. Too many people talk about accountability like it only counts if you express deep shame. I think Ty has it right: here’s where I failed, but here’s where it’s not all on me.

I don’t think there is any deception here at all! Poor communication maybe. They both said nothing and just kept moving along so they’re both at fault for not communicating. But I don’t think there’s anything devious taking place here. Again I still stand on Julie needs to get over herself and be thankful for what she has versus what she thinks she should have or what she thought she would have. They’ve known each other since they were 16 things change big time.

This makes me hopeful. I believe that with more reflection and conversation they might just figure out that right here and now is good. Perhaps not what Julie wanted/planned, but good nonetheless

Way to go Ty! Standing up for yourself and speaking your mind. Finally grew a backbone

Seeing Julie tear up, she felt seen finally. You are such a great actress to be able to convey that so well. Still team Ty though

Shawna deserves an award for her acting. I find myself forgetting that these characters are all one woman!

I've read most of the comments and agree, but I'm also thinking at what time has Ty been able to write the book when he has been the at home parent while he's been giving Julie her time to shine with her career. The limited time he would've had to write, the creative juices may have not been flowing?? Just another point to throw in the mix, aside from things have changed for him and he didn't know how to tell her?

I’m proud of him for asking questions and taking accountability and also being real about sharing his feelings. He didn’t say “you undervalue me,” he said “I feel undervalued,” and that’s a fair thing to share. Saying that she’s being a little immature wasn’t a great follow, but I’ll cut him slack for trying.

I know y’all hate Julie, but Julie is not the villain in this story. She is the villain to Shawna, but it comes from trauma and the issues that she has with her husband, but in this situation between Ty and Julie, Ty is the villain, that is not a question. It is OK for you to change your mind on what is important to you, but you have to communicate that in the marriage because if your wife does not know that you want to derailed the program that you guys talked about for so long that is going to create a rift in your marriage because y’all keep forgetting that Julie sacrifice so much. She compromise on a lot of things for Ty.

honestly I see both sides. I've said this before relationships are not black or white. the thing is he is realizing he did mess up and is owning up to it that doesn't mean he didn't get hurt throughout the relationship. just like her, she isn't the bad guy here either. These are human responses feeling resentful not talking about being harsh and rash. not saying is perfect but nobody is perfect. nobody really is a well regulated human being. hopefully she can see that it might not be what she planned but it can still be a good happy life. I think this is something they can really get over.

"Let's talk" he says. Then he talks, about himself, his feelings and how he thinks she feels. She doesn't really get a chance to say anything much.

i’m proud of Ty for talking and having this conversation. and even though i can empathize with Julie her behavior towards Shawna is still not okay. i still support the divorce but i want them to at least divorce on good terms

I think it’s brave of him to address his issues and mistakes AND point out how he’s been feeling too. Being the primary parent is a lot! I can only imagine it’s so much harder when your partner doesn’t even recognize the work you’re putting in 😞
