fun fact when Dean and Sam were little Dean would not eat and make sure that Sam so when he's older when you see him eating all the junk food and all the candy bars and he just is eating and eating eating it's because he has an eating disorder because he would starve himself to make sure that Sam ate because John was never there and he was a kid and then a teenager

People always say that Dean knew his dad was possessed because he was too nice but that wasn’t it. It’s more nuanced. John told the boys he was proud of them as himself like the next episode. It was that Dean knew using the bullet was a selfish act and took them a step further away from killing Azazel. He knew that his dad would never approve of wasting the bullet, even to save Sam. He’d never tell him he was proud for THAT. It’s still painful and telling but like I said, more nuanced.
