@humphreytalks: How much should you spend on an Engagement Ring in 2026? Hint: it’s not 3 months salary. Here’s what I think, but do YOU agree? #EduTok #LearnOnTikTok #TikTokLearningCampaign
I bought my wife a lab-grown diamond. Someone told me their future wife was “worth more” than a lab diamond. My response: an engagement ring isn’t an investment—it’s a gift and a symbol of commitment. If you’re never planning to sell it, why does the resale value matter? The real investment is the marriage and the life you build together.

What you’re comfortable spending. For me, it’s more important that we pick something out together.

My husband got me a sapphire ring. We never talked about how much he spent but we agreed we disliked diamonds for multiple reasons, so I loved his choice

I would prefer something lab created. I don’t need a real diamond. I’ll also happily accept an in home version of Belle’s library vs a ring

Although my husband gave me a budget to shop one that I would enjoy. I opted to save up the money for a down payment for a house instead. And we spent about $1100 for a wedding band and got the engagement ring off of Groupon goods years later after a few years into the marriage and of course successfully buying a house!

We spent around $7k for a 2.5 karat lab made stone and well worth it. Natural stones are not worth the price.

I want a big (lab grown) diamond. It’s the best bang for your buck and nobody can tell lab grown from the real thing anyways 🤷♀️

i did 7% of salary and was able to get a great ring, no need to blow through a quarter of annual earnings especially for the right one

My bf makes 7 figure so idk if 3 month salary rule even makes sense. All i need is a lab grown ring. I really don’t care and think diamond is a marketing scam. Just want to be with him honestly

Moissanite…more sparkling than a diamond. And a hell of a lot cheaper.

I would say 2 months post tax salary is appropriate. I prioritize a wedding and home down payment over an insanely lavish ring

You laid out the framework perfectly, providing realistic price data and a solid debt free checklist is exactly the type of financial clarity people need 👏

I’m conflicted because my engagement ring was such a huge deal to me when we were getting married. 20 years later I don’t wear it. Got tired of the style. It doesn’t fit. I have thought about getting it reset but it’s not a priority. Now with lab diamonds those are just the way to go. Fraction of the cost. Sparkles all the same.

As a woman, many of us do care. It’s one of the most symbolic moments in a relationship showing a man’s love & sacrifice. He should definitely save up & get her something that makes her feel honored

~20k-30k for 2.5-3 carats 👀 but I’m not saying that’s a normal amount to spend
