@jayybeech: Over a year ago, I asked a question that generations of LGBTQ+ people fought, marched, protested, and risked their lives for us to have the right to ask. This moment shouldn’t be political. But it was. And it still is. Every year, the right to same-sex marriage is dragged back into public debate, even in countries that call themselves champions of equality and human rights. Our right to love is too often treated as something conditional, something that can be granted, questioned, or taken away. A reminder that rights hard won are never guaranteed. Across the world, millions of LGBTQ+ people are forced to hide who they are because their existence is criminalized. Millions more face discrimination, violence, imprisonment, and even death simply for loving someone. Transgender people around the world are facing growing hostility, having their identities questioned, their rights restricted, and their existence turned into a political battleground. And somewhere tonight, a young queer kid is lying awake thinking they’re broken and unworthy of a life of love and happiness. That’s why Pride matters. Because our rights are not set in stone. Because our existence is not up for debate. Because love should never depend on where you’re born. And because every single person deserves the chance to imagine a future like this
