I did the math years ago but basically, they could run the mri machine 24/7 and only pay like $18 and some change for the energy consumed for the whole day. So it makes no sense why it costs so much to use.

My wife and I had a baby at a hospital about 15 years ago and the invoice was around $12,000. When they found out we were going to pay for it out of our own pocket, they discounted the invoice down to around $5,800. We were shocked that the cash price was half.

The provider bills higher because of the games insurance company plays. The payment to provider is the same. Insurance company needs their cut
