@dr.ally: Mental health research is getting really interesting. After the field’s replication crisis, there’s been a growing push for more biologically informed research. Studies examining methylation, genetics, and how they’re influenced by early childhood trauma and chronic stress are especially intriguing. We’re learning more about the ways life experiences can shape biology and how biology, in turn, can influence mental health. #MentalHealth #trauma
Can the opposite also be true when it comes to reversing that effect and evolving.

It’s fascinating research. There was an Emory mouse experiment where mice were given an electric shock when the scent of cherry blossoms was put in the cage. Once the mice learned the connection they would cower in the corner of the cage any time they smelled cherry blossoms. Then researchers exposed their offspring to the scent of cherry blossoms without being trained AND THE MICE WERE FEARFUL TOO. Not only that, it took SEVEN generations of mice to extinguish the effect! You can read about it in this article: “How Critical Race Theory Can Help Heal Generational Trauma”

I think the study of epigenetics super facinating, and I also worry people will co-opt the concept to promote eugenisist beliefs and scientific racism :( I appreciate that you end this video with tips on how to check sources and viewing new studies in an appropriate context!!
