@thebreastchapter: If you're heading into a double mastectomy, SAVE this video…you'll likely need it later. One thing I took seriously from Day 1 was my drain care. As a nurse, I already knew how important proper technique is when it comes to JP drains, so I made it a priority to keep everything clean, strip them correctly, and accurately track my output. Now, just 6 days post-op, my drain output is barely anything. Of course, every recovery is different. Always follow your surgeon's instructions for when to empty your drains and how often to strip them. This is not medical advice…I'm simply sharing the technique I personally use to care for my drains after surgery. 💡Drain Tip that made a HUGE difference for me: If stripping your drain is painful, try pinching the tubing closest to your body while someone helps strip the drain further down the line. This can help prevent that uncomfortable pulling/suction sensation while the tubing is being stripped. Once they're finished, slowly release your pinch. It has made a world of a difference for me during recovery. If you're preparing for a mastectomy or reconstruction, I hope this serves as a helpful reference and makes this part of recovery feel a little less overwhelming. 💾 SAVE this for later. 📤 SHARE with someone preparing for surgery. 💗 If you've had drains before, leave your best tip below to help another woman navigating recovery. #breastcancer #cancertok #breastcancerawarness

In October of 2025 my mom had a double mastectomy with 4 drains. I’m May of 2026 she got reconstructive surgery with 2 more drains. I am the one who strips them and the alcohol pad is my favorite way to do so.

Your strength is amazing. My mom had breast cancer for over a decade (she had a few years of remission before it metastasized) and gained her wings 6 years ago. Wishing you nothing but power and perseverance.
