idk I thought it was mediocre because it threw away exploring Clark in any deeper way in order to switch to a white woman's perspective. and her savior complex is barely explained because her scenes are 90% quiet flashbacks. like switching perspectives was objectively what fucked up the movie. More nitpicky stuff is that the acting from anyone other than Clark was at best kind of Eh but that can be objectively blamed on a24 because they love directing actors weird. And the Anachronism, they based it off the 90s instead of the 80s, which objectively makes it look more 2000s than 90s but I also feel the time period doesnt matter for this. it's rlly not helped by the fact that it's playing on the angry black man stereotype even if unintentionally, which could've been resolved had he just been the focus for the entire movie. not that he cannot be an angry black man, but there must be more to him to separate him from the stereotype. it couldve been commentary on how people especially men are taught to not change, and why. By only focusing on the "apolitical" broad theme (which is refusal to change will leave you in cycles) it leaves room for interpretation for the political message, which is always present no matter what because politics is unfortunately inherent. and if that interpretation can be Black men can be abusive and refuse to change then the Why is left up in the air. especially with the focus on "just how Im wired," it really leans into the stereotype. and this is not to say the backrooms is pushing racist ideology, it's more so that it's ignorant in its writing. It chose to shove in two people's struggles into its plot without properly feeling out any, leaving one character to appear as a stereotype while the other to have to spell out her own savior complex because all the time we could've spent being shown her complex we were instead given Silence. We cut out the a sync stuff or simply hide it alongside cutting the Silence out while showing more shit in its place then it'd be a better movie. It's greatest strength is Kane Parsons vision, and his ability to commit to it and execute it perfectly. It's most of the points I gave.

Kane made entities in the backrooms actually make sense. The backrooms copies the world so naturally it would copy the people that live in it instead of having random ass over powered monsters 😭
