@knoxstudy: On the global debt crisis hamstringing developing countries. #developingcountry #migration #development #smallboats #immigration Video commissioned by the Money Talks Project.
I appreciate the sentiment - but the U.K. is rapidly approaching becoming one of these countries? The government currently spends 110 billion servicing the national debt, compared with 122 billion on education. The 110 billion is rising rapidly, as this already eclipses transport spending 4 times over.

USA Spent 14% of budget on debt interest last year, maybe in a few years we can move to the UK

Wonderfully articulated and spot on - if I may perhaps asterisk this a little it would be to mention corruption (as the root cause of the global debt crisis). I once lived in an African country to which either the IMF or WB loaned $11B (decades ago). Ten Billion went into the ruler’s bank accounts in Switzerland, and $1B was sprinkled ‘generously’ between ministers and generals. It was the country though that was burdened with the debt. I had an African flatmate in college whose country debt was a modest $3.3B. The ruler’s wealth (in UK banks) was estimated at $3.2B. I had an Indonesian flatmate in college also - an Argentine flatmate as well - I could go on and on. Perhaps I’m oversimplifying - some countries do borrow earnestly (as I’m sure the UK government does - all their debt is duly accounted for, right?) but much of the developing world’s debt (and I shall include some Eastern European nations here) is a direct result of rulers (Presidents, PMs, Kings) being courted by bankers knowing all too well where the monies will end up, but looking to leech off countries for decades. Were it only that bankers didn’t make commission or bonuses from all the loans they got signed…
