my mom would say something similar. "i have to love you, but i don't like you". sending love, and i'm glad things got a bit better for you 💕

My mom said often to me “I love you but right now I really don’t like you.” I didn’t consider it wrong then and I don’t now. It’s extremely exhausting and frustrating being a parent and I think such huge expectations are put on them/us. It’s ok to not be ok. To be angry and frustrated and honest with yourself and your children. I tell my own daughter the same except I say, I love you but I don’t like your behavior at the moment”. Maybe it’s a little easier or gentler than what my mother said to me but when you become a parent yourself you really understand all the challenges your own parents faced and my single mother, dollars away from poverty did her very best ❤️. Happy to hear you were able to create a loving and healthy relationship with your mom. 🥰

My son asks me five times a day. do you love me? I always ask back. do you love me? I always say yes first. I think he questions me cuz I have this grumpy side that I don't want and he wonders if she's always grumpy with me maybe it's me. this makes me feel terrible cuz he's only five and it's not that he explains anything to me. it's the need to be validated cuz he isn't sure and that's the part that breaks my heart and I try everyday to be less grumpy and more loving.

My mom was such a loving woman, she loved me immensely and I felt it. She however did not grow up with a loving mother, but made the decisions to be the complete opposite of her. I am eternally grateful, I am the woman I am because of the way she loved and encouraged me. I am sending you love and healing for your relationship with your momma ❤️

I introduced your page to my husband a while ago and we went to our downtown area and saw your cookbook displayed as a feature. He bought it for me and said that he thought it would help me through my own therapy journey, as I often cry and resonate so strongly with your videos about your relationships and mother. I appreciate your content so much🥰

I don’t remember my mom ever saying she loves me… but I’ve done the same. It just never comes natural to say

My mother once said there were times she would begin to hate me. We’re better now but I swear when she told me that I legit thought I was gonna cry.

I’m so sorry. I didn’t grow up hearing it and it has fundamentally shaped who I am. I make sure to say it to my daughter as many times in a day as I can. I also constantly tell her “nothing you can ever do will make me stop loving you”

I think we need courses that teach us how to raise children. We were children once too, and many of us carry wounds, insecurities, and painful experiences from our own upbringing. When we become parents, we often find ourselves struggling with those old issues while trying to be the best parents we can be for our children. It isn't easy.
Parents are human beings too, and humans make mistakes. No parent is perfect. But in the end, the most important thing is love. If we truly love our children, do our best to support them, and keep learning from our mistakes, things will hopefully turn out right. Love may not make us perfect parents, but it helps us become better ones.

it breaks my heart to know that if I attempted to even want what you wanted at the time, my mom would probably disown me
