Why would polishing off the tarnish be bad? As long as you don’t lacquer it then it should still be antibacterial right?

There is actually a news paper story about a town in Norway (Røros) who got very little covid. There's an old Cooper mine under that town, and copper and brass door handles are very normal in that particular town because of it. It's so interesting, and i want more of it in my own home

I have 100+ year old brass doorknobs on all the bedrooms and front and doors. It's good to know they're self "cleaning"

When we moved into our house in 1977, I took all the brass sconces, door handles and dresser pulls to be polished. When my mother (who was born in 1909) saw what I had done, she was appalled and said "Why, Ann, the tarnished brass was the beauty of it"! That was long ago, and now all my brass is beautifully tarnished once again 😊

So why can’t you polish it? The metal is still underneath, and probably more effective when not covered in decades of grime

Is it ok to polish an old brads handle as long as you don’t coat it with lacquer?

I'm still lost on the no polishing. Because the video just seems to imply no laquer, but says nothing about no polishing. Doesn't polishing just remove dirt and a small top layer to make it shiny again?

I don’t think they did it deliberately they just changed it without thinking. They didn’t know about germs. They should change it all back.

🤔 Who... Who would replace those beautiful examples with ugly matte black or stainless steel boring modern monstrosities... 😳 especially on a traditional style house?

I wish they weren't round though. Round doorknobs are infinitely worse to use than ones that are a straight rod. I wish those were brass

This just isn't true. Hospitals used brass because it was the common material. Antimicrobial research on brass is relatively new.

I've lost count of how many times people called me crazy for questioning certain things. What unsettled me about Shadows of High Society wasn't that it gave me new ideas. It was how many old ones it brought back.
