Yes! You are not alone. Also, I believe that this can be any trauma. But my example is that I will not even consider going back to high school reunions.

I sat in a restaurant of my trauma town, and someone asked if I was ok because I kept sinking further and further under the table. Apparently not, and unfortunately yes. I didn’t notice but after 45mins of being there I was on the verge of crying. My body responded and I was so disassociated from it that I didn’t even notice

You’re definitely not alone in this. I recently moved back to my hometown and I’m only able to stay grounded thanks to my meditation practice. It’s been healing seeing this place through adult eyes. I stayed away for so long because it was too much. Luckily none of the people who hurt me live here anymore. I haven’t forgotten about what happened here and the volume has come way down. Moving here and deciding to stay is part of my agency practice

The older I get, the more it feels like my librarian is going through the files from lifetime trauma and tossing recently-searched folders into my consciousness when vaguely or specifically triggered. Not so much location for me, but smells, unique lighting, even a state-of-fatigue + temperature + particular breeze. Suddenly my brain sends me a "this is the same as...." memory, and since trauma is so much more likely to have been memorized versus better times (cuz brain holds what keeps us safe, not what makes us happy)., the memory is usually tied to hard times.

My memory is like Swiss cheese. You really remember your past? I have to ask hubby like three times because he has a good one

I catalog everything by location. I just started immersion therapy walking through old locations that I endured something. It’s helped rewrite my own narrative around it as a healthier version of myself now. I’ve been able to release a lot that way.

Yes. I’m originally from the Bay Area, and I LOVE where I grew up, but I can never go back. I couldn’t go to my best friends funeral because just the thought of the triggers threw me into a panic mode…

Places, songs, people. The emotional triggers are so hard and confusing. It took me a long time to connect what was even triggering me when I was just at the grocery store.

I have areas here in Vegas that I get bad anxiety just because of my sister and some of the grief and drama surrounding that whole scenario. Basically anywhere I feel like I might run into her makes me super anxious.

When I go back to my childhood town - which rarely happens - I’m anxious and I feel “seen”. I was bullied in school.

No. I moved 4000 miles across the ocean and away from my family and trauma, so I’ve been able to start to heal.

The first truama I ever experienced happened in front of my childhood home, so every time I go visit with my dad it's like a fucking gut punch. I had to live there a bit as a adult and I got sleep paralysis cause I was so stressed from the reminder.

My neighborhood, the town I went to school in, the surrounding areas, the 2 counties I'm in...it sucks so bad being stuck where nearly every traumatic experience happened

Sometimes, when the wind blows a bit on a nice sunny day and people are out enjoying their lawns and backyards I get overwhelmed with a feeling of happiness that is immediately squashed in terror because I believe something bad is going to happen any second. I can thank my trauma for this. It’s….annoying.

Yep and honestly it’s one of the biggest reasons I moved away from my hometown. My therapist once told me I’d have a much easier time healing if I wasn’t constantly putting myself in the environments that hurt me and I would have to agree with her.
