@mediocremomsclub6: I used to dread cleaning my cast iron, but this little ice trick makes it so much easier. ✨ A hot pan, a handful of ice, and a quick rinse is usually all it takes to loosen up the stuck-on bits. Then I dry it over heat and give it a light coat of oil. Simple, fast, and ready for the next meal. Do you wash your cast iron with soap or are you on team “never ever”? 👇 #castiron #castironcooking #castironcare #homemaking #simpleliving

You’re close, but I’ll stick with the Alton Brown method.

Guys it’s not 1867 anymore. You can use soap on cast iron.

We wipe with a napkin and keep it moving. Ours has flavor from 1867.

I always freeze my boiling water. That way, during the week when you need to make pasta, you can just take it out of the freezer, reheat it, and instant boiling water.

You see how your pan looked splotchy after your oil wipe? That thermal shock of ice on a hot pan breaks up the polymerized seasoning layer. You’re damaging the seasoning doing that. Warm pan, hot water, scrub with a Scrub Daddy. Tiny bit of soap but only if needed. Like a drop’s worth. Wipe dry, then low heat, then apply oil.

The no soap is outdated and came from when soap contained lye, which would strip the seasoning. You’re welcome

Instead of ice, I used a strawberry margarita Cutwater, and I didn’t have a cast iron pan, so used my toaster. Very disappointed with the results, 1 star.

just use dish soap and whatever dish cleaning apparatus (rag/sponge/brush/pot scraper) and dry really well.. soap doesn’t have lye in it anymore so use it and stop eating old crusty burnt food bits
