@jasondoroughauthor: Not every character needs a major arc. Some of the most compelling protagonists stay fundamentally the same throughout the story. Characters like Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, or Conan the Barbarian work because readers love watching them be themselves in new situations. The tension comes from the plot and challenges, not from internal transformation. Sometimes the most interesting character is the one who remains unmistakably themselves no matter what happens. #WritingTips #BookTok #WritersOfTikTok #CharacterDevelopment #StaticCharacters
it bothers me when people act like little character development is a sin. a character can have their morals and lifestyle pretty figured out, and new obstacles don't inherently challenge those beliefs. it's just a matter of making sure the story is still engaging without character development as usually that's the center stone

I have a character that is very witty and sarcastic but they lose a loved one during the story. How do I make that loss affect them and still have them be comedic at times? Should they just avoid jokes for a chapter or two?

Omg, thanks! I was gonna be like “a clear arc is over-simplistic bla bla bla” 🤣

There is also how the character's consistent attitude/lifestyle/etc changes EVERYONE ELSE around them. I find those interesting too.
