it bothers me when people act like little character development is a sin. a character can have their morals and lifestyle pretty figured out, and new obstacles don't inherently challenge those beliefs. it's just a matter of making sure the story is still engaging without character development as usually that's the center stone

I have a character that is very witty and sarcastic but they lose a loved one during the story. How do I make that loss affect them and still have them be comedic at times? Should they just avoid jokes for a chapter or two?

There is also how the character's consistent attitude/lifestyle/etc changes EVERYONE ELSE around them. I find those interesting too.
