I make it with just a tablespoon of sugar otherwise just like yours except more cornmeal than flour. my husband's mother didn't even use oil, no flour, egg and sweet milk. Mines MUCH Better.

I love both sweet and normal cornbread. For me it depends on what I’m eating like collards I love sweet cornbread with my greens!

Here in Alabama I grew up hearing from everyone I knew that sweet cornbread was called Jonny cake and was considered more of a dessert than something you ate with your meal unsweetened cornbread was more common and it was eaten with just about every meal

oh lord, sugar is for your tea not your cornbread but we either put bacon grease in our skillet or lard and then when you had em you added cracklins
