@nate.b.jones: AI token burn goes up when people use AI more. Laying people off and asking survivors to pick up the slack means more AI usage. #meta #ailayoffs #LearnOnTikTok #techlayoffs #tokenburn

Ironically it turns out human capital is a relatively fixed cost and if you make people do more work you just buy them pizza, but if you make AI do more work it charges you more.

Under U.S. copyright law, AI-generated code is ineligible for copyright protection because the author must be human. As affirmed by the U.S. Copyright Office, simply providing natural language prompts is treated as requesting unprotectable ideas rather than executing creative authorship.

GitHub Copilot switched to token based today and all the big companies are extremely unhappy with how much their AI bill is now.

Aren’t they just trying to drive down wages? Pretty sure the strategy over all is fire a bunch of people and then because the job market is tight, hire them back for less

There’s so much in the space of AI that doesn’t add up. It seems it’s closer to the dot com bubble scenario than many want to admit just in a different way.

Personally, I think their capital spend on AI data center build out is out of control and they need to find the money someplace. Reducing their labor cost, they think will solve that. It won’t.

They’re not laying people off for ai, jevons paradox. They’re laying people off for short term quarterly profits, the only game in town at the moment for publicly traded companies

Tbh, it makes me wonder just how many jobs were truly eliminated vs how many employees were just given more work that should be delegated to a whole other person.

They also fired people at their new ai data center in Montgomery. Yeah that math doesn’t math.

a lot of these companies are just using AI as a scapegoat for the mass layoffs they've been wanting to do, but were afraid people would see it as a sign the company is shrinking and thus losing value. so they blame AI to make it look like they're innovating.

Companies are just trying to drive up stock prices. Layoffs and AI usage seem to do that in the short term

Firing $150k / year humans for $200k each in “tokens” makes zero sense.

Idk, it just looks like AI isn't really eliminating jobs. The employers are just firing/terminating people and making the workers they keep do the work of another employee with AI there to help fill in the gaps.

I seriously don't believe that very many jobs are being replaced by AI yet. customer service and tech support maybe. afaic what's really going on is offshoring.

Ai is a cover for the layoff reason. Ai is real but the market price and economy numbers are inflated. Real people are spending less and companies need to layoff with out hurting their stock price.
