And for people who were thinking of going to the new Olive Young in Pasadena: please consider going to PlayLab beauty right around the corner. It’s all authentic Korean skincare, with the original formulas.

I knew the sunscreen was going to be reformulated for the US so I was expecting that, but the product selection for the US site/store was SO disappointing. Shibuyala, PlayLab Beauty and Korheim are in the area and all have way better selections.

As someone that works under FDA regulated industry: They have to follow US rules, unfortunately. And that includes selling US approved formulations. 😔😭

I went there today and I left the store and bought nothing. So that pretty much sums up my experience there. I honestly did not see many good deals. For example, they seem to be promoting MediHeal a lot. One of the employees kept recommending the toner pads which I already use. She emphasized that it’s on sale and when I saw the price it was the same as the price it is right now on Amazon. So you really don’t get any special deal here. Not only that, I bought these toner pads when Amazon was having their Spring Beauty Sale last month for $10 dollars less. And most of their regular priced products are the same prices or slightly more than other online and physical retailers. My favorite bb cream that I’ve used for years is actually $5 dollars more at this OY store than it is online purchased directly from the brands official website. So basically, no good deals really from what I saw or was expecting. And I also don’t think the brands they carry in store are really that different or difficult to find elsewhere nowadays. Again, the Korean brands they focus on such as MediHeal, Anua, Medicube, Biodance, Rejuran are already available online and in store at certain locations in the US and at the same or even lesser price points. Lastly, they really are wasting shelf space on Western brands such as Urban Decay, Nyx, Maybelline and Lancôme. You can find these brands pretty much anywhere in the US. And those were the shelves where I didn’t see any interest from other customers when I was there so they really are just taking up space. Just my lengthy two cents on my experience at the OY store.

It’s cause they now have warehouses in the US to avoid tariffs not just the FDA

It’s not it sis 😭 so much disappointment .. SPFs are reformulated, 1+1s and special packaging are gone, Urban Decay is literally there. I placed multiple OYG orders and documented everything — the hauls, the doubles, the stuff the US site doesn’t even carry. And I’m planning a walk-through of this exact store soon. Come with me 👀✨

I liked ordering from olive young global because of the exclusive gift sets (despite already having great value, they would go on sale sometimes) such as the sunscreens. I found a lot of niche brands that i’ve never heard of before and it was really nice to browse around and do research on those products and see what the locals are using. The makeup selection on the US site is also huge flop. Why is maybelline at olive young?

Don’t forget they also switched over to a US specific rewards program with way worse rewards and much higher spending tiers. They also knocked down everyone to a beginner tier when they forced us to switch over.

I do not understand the market research behind this choice. If I wanted to pay more for the ease of getting product in person, I would just go to a local kbeauty place. It’s not like the cities OY chose to open in has a lack of those. Also for western stuff, ulta and Sephora takes returns and OY doesn’t.

I went to the physical store yesterday. I was surprised to see a bunch of US brands. The store is extremely overwhelming. You need to get a skin analysis to understand anything. I didn't d it as the line was too long. They also were out of alot of products. You would think they would have overstocked for a store opening
