Resident physician here! On my endocrinology rotation, I learned the best thing to stabilize your blood sugar is adding protein, since it helps prevent the sugar from spiking! Also - fruits can be your enemies, the 5 best diabetic friendly fruits are kiwi, apple, pear, cherry and any berries!

Add protein and fiber! They help prevent the blood sugar spikes. Also freezing the carbs— rice, potatoes, it works really well too!

Always have orange juice in the house. When you go low, have a glass of juice.

As a type 1 diabetic, it’s important to remember as long as you give insulin you can eat whatever you want. This is what my nurses told me when I was diagnosed 10 years ago

t1d! juice/fruit spikes my bloodsugar the worst. veggies almost never spike it, same for meats. BUT. foods with too much cheese.. although it has no carbs, keep my blood sugar super high due to slow

T1D here… I was told I need to eat 3x the amount of protein I eat in regular food. Protein helps your insulin to absorb more efficiently!

Eating your veggies first, then protein, and then other carbs will help not spiking blood sugar 🤗 my nutritionist told me that!

Juice is good for lows especially apple or orange. Also during lows anything with 15 carbs is good to have to help raise it before eating anything major to not cause crazy fluctuations.

Hey there! Type 1 diabetic here! Community is very important during this time as T1D can be extremely isolating. Have him follow instagram pages of T1Ds or message me! You’re not alone in this 🥰

My stepmother‘s been a type one diabetic since she was seven. She’s in her 60s and in pretty good health. The trick is to just keep taking care of it. A lot of people think it doesn’t really matter because it doesn’t seem to affect them in a short term, but it definitely affects you in the long-term.

Get glucose tablets and plenty of orange juice or apple juice for low blood sugars

My boyfriend is T1D and eats pretty much whatever he wants. He has a continuous glucose monitor and an insulin pump. He pays a lot of money for his diabetes medication but he always just says health is wealth and any amount of money is worth keeping you as healthy as possible. He eats a lot of meat, fruit, and rice. But mostly he just gives himself insulin before we eat!
