Which means we can unlearn it. The work isn't curing herpes. It's unteaching everything we were told about it. 2. The hardest person to disclose to was myself. You can tell a stranger about your diagnosis before you've fully told yourself. The longest disclosure of your life is the internal one. Most people never finish it. 3. You can't move forward until you accept it. Denial comes from believing your life is worse now that you have herpes. But the outcome of this diagnosis is something you decide. Not the virus. Acceptance isn't giving up. It's the moment progress becomes possible. 4. Rejection isn't a loss. It's an upgrade. The people who stay aren't there because you were convenient. They chose you on purpose. Herpes just filtered out the wrong ones faster. 5. Self-image is the ceiling. Every yes to your disclosure feels like relief for about a week. Then you realize you're still waiting for the next one. Until you believe you're worth picking, no amount of external yeses will ever be enough.
