I have been living out here for 15 years. I have a 24-year-old daughter and a 17 year old son, and they both have friends from many different ethnic backgrounds. They are respectful kids. To be honest, back in November, my Black son was attacked by a white girl who jumped out of a car in downtown Naperville and started hitting him for no reason. He did not even know who she was. Even then, my son chose not to press charges because some of his closest friends are white. He does not see color. He extended grace. And what was said was she has a “disability” but the state picked it up. I have taught my children that God created us all equal. So racial profiling a group of Black kids simply because you see them walking is wrong, and it is not right. If they are doing something wrong, then by all means, discipline them. But please do not make this about race. We pay the same tax dollars as everyone else, and our children deserve to be treated fairly and with respect.
