I teach middle school - I give them “free seating” until they lose it - surprisingly they held each other pretty accountable and kept it until Q3 but when they lost it and got a chart, they owned it and didn’t complain 🤷🏼♀️😂

We start in alphabetical order so I learn their names and then a real one week 2. And a new one every two weeks it seems because no matter where I move them they still talk 🤷🏻♀️

I give them an introduction sheet to work on and go around writing their names on a blank seating chart introducing myself and having small conversations. that way I have a template too.
