In 1927, a man with no medical credentials invented the system Korean companies still use to sort job applicants. Takeji Furukawa was a school administrator at Tokyo Women's Normal School. His entrance exams kept misfiring. Students with strong scores burned out, students who barely passed did fine. So he published a paper claiming ABO blood groups predicted personality where test scores couldn't. His sample was ten to twenty subjects. The Japanese Society of Medicine formally rejected the work in 1933 for lacking scientific basis. But by then the Imperial Army had already picked it up, commissioning blood type studies aimed at breeding ideal soldiers. Furukawa compared blood distribution of Formosans in occupied Taiwan against the Ainu of Hokkaido, concluded that rebelliousness lived in type O blood, and recommended intermarriage to dilute the trait. A journalist named Masahiko Nomi revived the whole framework in 1971 with a bestseller that sold millions. His son built it into a publishing empire. Then Korea absorbed it. In 2005, the agricultural cooperative Nonghyup told type A and AB applicants not to apply because they quote had no drive. A framework invented to fix one school's admissions failure became military doctrine, became a bestseller, became a corporate sorting tool. It only changed costume.
