This happened to me in college! A friend asked me to cat sit for her during a semester abroad. She stopped returning my communication’s and almost 2 years later tried contacting me to get the cat back. I quoted her for 2 yrs room and board or I was keeping him - long story short, he was with me for 22 years until he passed last summer.

If you agree to store someone’s car for two weeks and they leave it, you actually do become the owner eventually. And you can sell it to recoup storage fees.
