@lexyflorentina: Looking for joy is not pretending that pain is absent, it’s not performing gratitude or slapping rose colored glasses on a really crappy moment. It’s showing your nervous system that despite whatever is going on, beauty, goodness, kindness, awe and wonder can still exist. And that goes a long way for our body and brain. I think a lot of us have spent so much of our life anticipating the bad. Looking for what could go wrong, quickly scanning for what’s isn’t going well. And that makes sense honestly. This kept us safe. But it also likely taught our nervous system to never look for anything good. Which creates an imbalance of suffering, stress and survival in our system. But when we show our brain how to look for other things. How to ask “what else is here?” That begins to build new neural pathways, helping our nervous system naturally begin to orient more and more to what’s going well or even what small things feel good to us. So i invite you to practice this with me. What is 1 thing you can find in your space right now that signals goodness, brings you joy or feels safe? It can be anything. Really look. And notice how that feels i side to be with it for a moment. This is just a tiny example of practicing joy.
