DANGERS OF CAT TOYS 💔 It breaks my heart that I have to write this post but something tragic happened in our home yesterday and I’m still trying to process it. One of our 3 month old kittens Ash very tragically passed away. He teared up one of the soft balls that hangs from the cat tree and ate the stuffing. Day later we are in emergency room for an obstruction surgery. He did very well during the surgery but unfortunately developed peritonitis during recovery and faded away in a matter of hours. Just like that. Gone. I’m heartbroken. 🙏 (Scroll down to see all the cute Ash videos. The last 2 photos are from the surgery and the toy that caused it) Kittens explore with their mouth. They eat everything they see on their way. For that reason we have a natural non clumping cat litter and we are very careful in our toy choices for kittens. Unfortunately, we missed one and it cost a life. ☠️Dangerous objects for kittens: 1️⃣ SOFT TOYS with stuffing inside. Choose very durable toys that can’t be torn apart. 2️⃣Toys with SMALL PLASTIC DETAILS like eyes, nose or tails. Any tail will be chewed of, trust me. 3️⃣FEATHER TOYS!!! Very dangerous. Feathers are made out of keratin and do not digest, have very sharp edges and some have artificial dyes. This toys should be supervised only. Don’t fool yourself with “cats hunt birds”, this is different. 4️⃣Anything with STRINGS, YARNS and ROPES. If digested strings wrap around inside the intestine and can only be surgically removed. Also check the scratch rope condition on your cat tree to make sure it’s secured well to a tree. 5️⃣CLUMPING CAT LITTER. If digested it clumps inside and blocks the gastrointestinal tract. It gets stuck on kittens paws and kitten will swallow it while trying to clean its paws. 6️⃣ARTIFICIAL PLANTS. Cats love chewing on it and most likely swallow it. Obviously there are more than that; and of course cats can still play with this toys but under supervision. In best case scenario your cat will vomit or poop it out. ❗️❗️❗️ Signs of blockage = EMERGENCY: vomiting( often very watery), diarrhea, lethargy, refusing food. ————————————————— Thanks for everyone’s support and keep your babies safe ❤️
