MORNING LOW BACK STIFFNESS Is your low back often stiff and sore when getting out of bed in the mornings?  Feel like an old person getting out of bed in the morning? Having to jump into a hot shower just to try and loosen up your back? This is commonly caused by compression of the lumbar spine, often with some of the low back muscles over working and other core muscles underworking, including the obliques, transverse abdominus, multifdus. During sleep, the body relaxes and the discs rehydrate, which can exacerbate the compression. This leads us to being stiff and sore in the mornings. To help this we need to get the lumbar joints moving better and strengthen the surrounding muscles to provide support to the spine. CAT-COW 2.0  -  1 x 10  Mobilising the lumbar joints, getting some movement to allow these joints to move more freely and to improve blood flow. SIDEPLANK  -  2 x 10-60secs Strengthening the lower back muscles on the side including the ql’s and obliques. Can be done on the knees or feet. BIRDDOG  -  2 x 5-6 each side The bird dog targets the deep stabilising muscles of the core, including the obliques, transverse abdominis and multifidus, while also engaging the glutes and shoulders.
