@nofret_egypt_: The tomb of Seti I (KV17) in the Valley of the Kings is widely regarded as one of the finest royal tombs of ancient Egypt. Discovered in 1817 by Giovanni Battista Belzoni, it is the longest tomb in the Valley, extending over 130 meters into the bedrock. Seti I, the second king of the 19th Dynasty (c. 1290–1279 BCE), was the father of Ramesses II. His tomb consists of a long descending corridor, multiple halls and chambers, and an unfinished passage leading even deeper into the mountain. The burial chamber originally housed a magnificent alabaster sarcophagus, now in Sir John Soane’s Museum. The decoration is exceptionally well preserved and among the most beautiful in Egypt. Its walls are covered with finely carved and painted scenes from funerary texts including the Book of Gates, Book of the Dead, Amduat, and the Litany of Re. These texts guide the king through the underworld and his rebirth with the sun god. The tomb is famous for its vibrant colors, elegant reliefs, and astronomical ceiling decorations, making it a masterpiece of New Kingdom royal art and one of the most important tombs in Egypt. #History #mystery #egypt #luxor #travels
