Not all share buybacks bring value to shareholders. It can be destructive if shares are repurchased above “intrinsic value”

actually the question is what happens to the balance sheet when cash is used to buy shares. It will decrease accordingly and networth becomes reduced.

Coy keeps the Treasury shares because the Board/mgmt may want to reward key executives with shares of the company. Coy don’t sell shares to market that was previously bought as it is tricky as insider trading. So Coy will usually cancel the (bought back) shares if they don’t intend to use it to give to key executives.

When a listed company buys back its shares, the cash spent is primarily recorded on the Cash Flow Statement and the Balance Sheet. That’s the answer the lady was asking.
