I recently changed one of my categories from "healthcare" to "health and wellness". I did this because we spend more on vitamins and general wellness than we do on Healthcare. It hasn't always been this way so I'm grateful we can change the name.

I break down our medical/medication by person instead of putting it all under one. I just like seeing that total break down per person at the end of the year. Since it's only 3 of us it easy but I can see where a big family may like to lump it all together.

Last week I added an “Opps, There it is” category” in my cash envelopes because there are always weird things that pop up. Yesterday my Mama needed a special type hamper for her Assisted Living apartment it was nice just to pull the cash out & not worry about it. (Yes she would have paid for it but I owe her life and a lot more plus she deserves to have somethings bought for her). I think I need to add one for “subscriptions” We get supplements & a few items monthly or every 6 months and I do not have them listed. Just to see if I am saving on those items.

I have a ton of line item categories for everything. But that’s the way my brain works and how I tend to stick to a budget. If I have $150 in just a Charlee fund, then I tend to overspend on her food and don’t have enough for grooming for example. So if it’s broken out food vs grooming, it helps me stay on track.
