@retailwithreece: As a pharmacist I have some questions about this situation. Is there a disconnect between how refills work, an issue with the electronic prescribing or is it the pharmacy changing the written quantity on the original prescription? #Pharmacist #pharmacy #healthcareworker #pharmacytechnician #pharmacytiktok

even if we partial it they still have the other 2 left on the script she’s clearly doing something wrong

I’m confused why she would think that insurance would always pay for 3 packs. Mine was always ordered as 1 pack with like 6 refills. I was able to fill every time.

We get calls all the time from doctors office “patients said they didn’t have a refill but we sent over some”…odd, the patient hasn’t called us because they have plenty of refills

1) you can send in for a 3 month fill but will the insurance PAY for the 3 month fill sometimes insurance will only pay for 1 month or a certain brand the patient or doctor can call or log into the insurance for that information. 2) patients do not think to request a refill from the pharmacy, did your patient call the pharmacy first before calling the docotor? 3) Is the patient trying to refill an old rx that is expired or out of refills? This can be fixed with a call or trip to the pharmacy 4) when you told your patient that you filled it for 3 months was the initial fill for 3 months with refills or was it totaled out to a 3 month supply sometimes that also causes confusion as to why they picked up the amount that they did, doctors stop blaming the pharmacy for everything when there are so many reasons why this could’ve happened

I used to run into this with one of my meds and honestly it sometimes had to do with who I was talking to at the pharmacy. I knew the script was sent and available for additional months and sometimes a tech would say there was no refill or script available and I’d have to have my doctor call. But the pharmacists would be able to fill the remaining script. Idk if that’s what was happening here but I always chalked it up to it be something in their system that required a different process.

I work in OB, this happens daily. Almost everytime the pharm tech just did not look at the script.

Doctor probably put “1 packet” thinking 1 box (which usually has 3 packets in it) leading to pharmacy only giving 1 month

I always love when prescribers send a quantity of three and expect that to equal a three month supply. Three what? The system automatically defaults to one pack because that’s the closest you can get if the doctor doesn’t specify a day supply or exactly what they want the patient to have

Sounds like the patient is just getting the last pack tied to that Rx number and the 3 month script is still on file

Also, we have patients who skip the placebo, but it’s not noted in the directions so they’re consistently filling early and then they end up running out of refills before their appointment

I know for Walgreens since it was written as a 90 with no refills it shows up to the patient as a “partial refill” and because they don’t have a 3 month refill left I swear the idiotic automated system will mislead people that they don’t have a refill when they actually do 😭

I have had this happen more than once from CVS. I believe it was an issue with the electronic system insurance says we can only get 1 month, dr wrote it for 3 months at the same time. Then 2 months get lost in the system somehow. So I just asked the Dr don’t write it for 90 days to please write 30 days and 2 refills.

Yeah, no…..it’s probably the insurance only let them do 28 days

Walgreens can only fill 30 days at a time of my 90 day supply of Doxy due to insurance. I’ll see if Express Scripts can fill it for 90 days. Not sure why one can and other can’t, but saw a TT alluding to that.

Walgreens used to do what this doctor is saying every time with BC. I was on SLYND, which insurance doesn’t like to cover in the first place. The OBGYN would send over the initial prescription for 3 month supplies with 4 refills. I’d pick up my prescription and it would be a 1 month supply with 3 refills. I knew enough from the get-go to call them out on it and get it fixed. Pharmacists who say this doesn’t happen are kidding themselves. And it is almost always a high priced birth control that it happens with. And what’s more is insurance gives you a hard time with the refills because they don’t want it refilled early but the pharmacy doesn’t carry that prescription due to the cost and you go days without because they don’t have it.

Tech here I can say that something I saw in a community pharmacy that I work for is that the previous owners techs what they did was if the order was for 90 day supply but insurance covered 30 instead of putting in the system dispensed 30/90 they would put 30/30 meaning that they accidentally or intentionally deleted 60 tablets

I realized that some people dont know to call the pharmacy to request a refill. They often call the office instead and i have to explain to call the pharmacy because they have 11 refills remaining.

Or I’ve been told that if there is a partial fill at Walgreens, if the patient doesn’t pick up the remainder of their fill after we get it in after 10days (bc we were out of stock), then the system just cancels out the remainder

sometimes I see prescriptions being sent over saying one packets but it’s not specified whether to fill for the whole box which is usually 3 smaller packets for 84 days or just one of the packets that come in that box maybe that’s the confusion
