Palagi kayong ganyan eh. || I've seen people say things like, “DepEd removed With Honors, With High Honors, etc. because they want students to lose hope” or “They don't want students to succeed anymore.” Pusang gala, I don't really agree with that. I actually think removing or reducing the focus on these titles can be a good thing. Not every student needs an award or a title to be motivated to study. Sure, some students really like getting honors. It can make them work harder, give them something to aim for, and make them proud of their hard work. And there's nothing wrong with that. But for other students, it can create a LOT of pressure. Some students may start thinking that getting 89 instead of 90 means they're not good enough. Others constantly compare their grades with their classmates, feel ashamed when they don't get honors, or study mainly because they're afraid of disappointing their parents or teachers. School should be about learning, improving, and developing your skills, not just trying to get a title at the end of the year. And removing honors doesn't magically stop students from achieving things. Students can still get high grades, join competitions, get scholarships, improve their skills, and be proud of their achievements. So I don't think the argument should simply be: “They removed honors, therefore they don't want students to succeed.” That's a huge assumption. You can disagree with DepEd's decision, and you can argue that honors motivate students. That's completely fair. But you should also consider the students who experience the opposite effect, students who become extremely stressed because they feel like they HAVE to maintain a certain grade just to be considered successful. I would rather have a system where students are encouraged to do their best without feeling like their entire worth depends on a medal, certificate, or title. Getting honors is an achievement. But not getting honors doesn't mean you failed. || #philippines #fyp #school #deped #political
