Or how our brain perceives ourselves and surroundings in this world. It tricks us, torments us, and yet reality is so different than what our brain tells us.

It’s a theory about the matrix itself and the cycle of reincarnation.

One of the most clear explanations of the allegory I’ve ever heard. I reread The Republic last year and it hit quite different as an American right now.

The nature of truth and its subjectivity/objectivity will always be the most provocative topic to me. You’ll never have the same conversation about it twice.

Plato wrote the Allegory of the cave, if this is to be believed, exactly 2 406 years ago today, yet somehow, it’s more relevant now than ever

Such a good analogy. I think it’s one of the first ones I learned when learning philosophy and it has stayed with me long since.

I really ought to read Plato again, I haven’t touched anything by him about half a year because we had to analyze so much of his work in my mandatory philosophy class and I’ve had enough of him 😭

Have u read about Robert Nozick’s experiment machine philosophy? This allegory reminds me of the discourse around it, if one person tells you that you have the chance to lead a better life, but you have to leave what you know, would you? And a lottt of people would say no, although I too would say no considering the false nature of it
