Omg I had the same issue but got it all refunded because they’re not allowed to backbill you!!! Check backbilling rules under ofgem. You’ll get a fat cheque from ombudsman

Then you send them to Ombudsman- OVO try billing me £5000k+ for my final bill and they want to back date etc… Result: OVO written off the bill and paid me compensation on the demand of Ombudsman

Get the balance as soon as possible and pay. They will add compliance fee, but as soon as the bailiff come out they will add another fee of around £260 then they will charge daily interest, you will receive at letter before they send a bailiff

When I got my place e-on we’re taking meter readings from a neighbouring flat which was empty for like 2 years so I was only paying like £40pm, they admitted it was their error and since the debt was over a year they writ it off

Council tax did this to me.. they set up my account etc when i moved in (mind you it was my 2nd month living in UK 2024) so they set up direct debit etc etc 8 months later I get phone call about this is my last warning before I will be given a date to appear in court etc, I tried to explain that I set up direct debit etc for this the refused, they said the direct debit was for the new bins you bought. so my council tax went from £270 a month to £600 a month to back pay and pay current month.. i since moved out and redid payment plan.. I am still to this day confused how they took my bank details etc set up a direct debit for new council bins (2yrs lster)
