so I have actually done this behind the scenes tour. every single one of these penguins is a volunteer. none of them are forced to interact with the tour group, which would be in the room at the end with the checkered floor. they let them know when it time for a tour and the ones who want to go get on the elevator and go interact! then they come hang out with you. it's a great experience. I've done many tours at multiple AZA zoos and enjoyed every. single. one!
