@middleeasteye: Wesam Mekdad, a Palestinian man from Gaza who was attacked by Dutch police along with his pregnant wife in a video that went viral last week, said the Netherlands, where the couple currently reside, had refused his refugee status application and decided to deport him to Egypt. He said despite his wife having residency in Germany, Germany also refused his refugee status application prior to his move to the Netherlands with his wife. Mekdad said the police were called on him after he broke some items in his room out of frustration after hearing the news of his deportation to Egypt. After the police arrived, he told them to be careful as his wife was nine months pregnant. Despite this, Mekdad said as soon as the officer found out he was a Palestinian from Gaza, he pulled his wife to the ground and violently assaulted them.
