ok ngl, I struggle with rendering because color theory is something I don't understand. but this oversimplification does help understanding the concept. an example I can see is if using red, go to orange and tone it down to a dark color. and go pink for a highlight.

if I'm not mistaken, it's important to note that if the light is cold, then the shadows are warm, and if the light is warm, the shadows are cold

ALSO, shading lightly with purple on something yellow makes it more warmer toned, and not muddy :P
