Too far, planet atmosphere may not be survivable to them, technology limitations, risk of pathogen crossovers. Time and resources needed to travel to and from, risk assessment of other sentient species, contingency plans for when and if they manage to return home, etc

I personally think the most realistic explanation for the Fermi Paradox is not a single theory, but a combination of several factors. Simple microbial life is probably common throughout the universe, but complex intelligent life may be extremely rare. Even on Earth, it took around 4 billion years for technological civilization to appear, and evolution does not automatically lead to intelligence. I also think the “Great Filter” is likely real. Once a civilization becomes technologically advanced enough to develop things like nuclear weapons, AI, biotechnology, or large-scale industry, it also gains the ability to destroy itself. Many civilizations may simply never survive long enough to become interstellar. On top of that, the universe is unimaginably large, and the speed of light may be a hard limit. Even advanced civilizations could remain isolated from one another for millions of years. And if highly advanced civilizations do exist, they may no longer look anything like us. They could become digital, AI-based, energy-efficient, or simply uninterested in expansion and communication. I do not fully believe in the Dark Forest Theory as the main explanation, but I think caution would naturally exist between intelligent civilizations. A species encountering another unknown civilization across the galaxy would probably observe quietly rather than openly reveal itself. So my overall view is that intelligent civilizations may be incredibly rare, short-lived, extremely distant, or simply too different from us for us to recognize them yet.

We are still far from developing the technology needed to explore enough of it to even meaningfully ask “where is everyone?”

Everyone is trapped by the speed of light regardless how advanced they are …. Simple as that

It took 4 billion years for intelligent life to appear in our solar system. That’s already a third of existence. So that intelligent life may be very rare isn’t that far fetched. Life may be incredibly wide spread, but intelligent life that are at a technological level that can be observed throughout the universe isn’t necessarily that common. Add that to the fact that the universe is much bigger than we will be able to observe, ever.

The universe is so vast it would take 32,000 years alone to cross our galaxy at the speed of light.

If the light from a planet is millions of year back in time? Maby life didnt exist the time we can see but later and we cant see it?

i think intelligent life wasn't inevitable, we're a coincidence or accident. no harm in keeping an ear out just in case though!

I like the idea that we have explored as much of the galaxy, as if we had a glass of water looking at the oceans. We didn’t find any whales in the glass of water so when we didn’t find any aliens yet we could say there’s no whales in the galaxy there’s no other life in the galaxy in the same percentage. We haven’t looked long enough.

time and distance is most likely. the other option is intelligent life is common, and they are happy not wanting to go into space.
