@tristatefiresprin: Ever noticed that fire sprinkler glass bulbs come in different colors? It's not random. Each color indicates a different activation temperature. GLASS BULB COLORS: • Orange: 135°F — Lowest temp, standard residential/office • Red: 155°F — Most common, standard environments • Yellow: 174°F — Higher temp areas • Green: 200°F — Near heat sources • Blue: 286°F — High-heat industrial areas • Purple: 360°F — Very high-heat environments • Black: 440°F+ — Extreme heat (furnaces, boilers) Why does this matter? Installing the wrong temperature rating can cause problems: • Too low: Sprinkler might activate from normal ambient heat (near skylights, unit heaters, etc.) • Too high: Sprinkler won't activate fast enough during a fire Areas near heat sources — kitchens, mechanical rooms, skylights — need higher-rated heads to avoid false activation. Standard offices and residential spaces use red (155°F) or orange (135°F). During inspections, we check that the right color heads are installed in the right locations. A red head under a skylight that gets direct sun? That's a problem waiting to happen. Next time you're in a building, look up. The color tells you everything. . . . . . #firesprinklers #firesafety #fireprotection #NYC #nj #tristatefire
