The Settlers, on the other hand, had a force of 54 people. The attackers were armed with nothing more than wooden spears and expected an easy victory. What they didn’t know was that the Settlers had already built bows, watchtowers, and a serious defensive system. And that wasn’t the only problem. Within the first minutes of the assault, six Raiders fell into hidden traps and were impaled on sharpened stakes concealed inside deep pits. Just like that, their numbers dropped to twenty-one. Still, the Raiders had anticipated incoming arrows. Before the attack, they had crafted sturdy shields from thick tree bark. Under that cover, they managed to push all the way to the village gates. Then the real slaughter began. A brutal, merciless battle erupted. Fortunately for the Settlers, their elevated positions and deadly traps gave them the advantage. The defenders lost only ten people. The attackers, however, were wiped out to the last man. When the fighting was over, only 52 inmates remained alive on the entire island. And this was only the second month of an experiment that was supposed to last five years. But the survivors had no intention of waiting that long. Instead, they began planning a way to leave the island much sooner. And trust me, bro — it was far more dangerous than anything that had happened so far.
