I remortgaged in 2020 at 2.85%, which was high at the time but since i could afford it, i fixed it for 10 years, ie until end of my mortgage.😏

this is why when I bought i did not go to the maximum amount. I was ridiculed by snob friends telling me they wouldnt have the house given as its not in the best area. but I used the extra money to make increased mortgage payments, now im almost mortgage free. we all have choices 😏

We earn 57k between us and have a child. Fixed term of 2.2% mortgage (197k for 220k house) from 2021-2026 at £690. new mortgage deal(174k) 2 years fixed at 3.7% £830. We live very comfortably. No penny pinching or living payday to payday. We feel so privileged to have basic jobs and to be able to live and some of my friends/colleagues talk about how I spend my money where as they can’t afford the same things yet earn more.. sorry not sorry 💁

That’s why when you buy a house or an apartment, you need to understand what stage of the cycle you’re in and where interest rates are. In 10 years, a 4.7% mortgage rate might be considered low. If you took out a mortgage when rates were around 1%, you should understand that they could rise again. By taking advantage of those low rates, you can pay off your mortgage faster so that future increases to 4.7% won’t hit you as hard. The problem is that many people don’t think ahead. When I took out my mortgage in 2009 during the financial crisis, I had low monthly payments for several years, but at the same time I was making extra repayments. Now I pay £300 a month and my fixed-rate deal ends in six months. My current rate is 1.79%, and it will go above 4%, but I’m not complaining because I know my mortgage payment will only increase by about £50 a month. That’s only because I understood what I was doing. People should educate themselves more about personal finance — that’s my advice.

Our mortgage is 1883 a month, we overpay it and out of 2183 repayment only £600 goes towards principle, rest is interest. IRS absolutely digesting

Those who stretched themselves to the max on low interest rates / or didn’t overpay massively while on them have only themselves to blame
