Good morning everyone. I wanted to provide an update on the pup behind Benavides Elementary in Sullivan City. A lot of people have been asking why I don't just pick him up. The reality is that I am willing to take him to the vet, but without a committed foster or a rescue tag, it puts both the dog and myself in a very difficult situation. Right now, I simply cannot afford to take in another dog without having a safe place for him to go afterward. I do not have the financial means to keep another dog in boarding for an extended period of time, and I have nowhere to house him myself. Many people don't realize that I am already caring for several dogs who are not likely to move anytime soon. There is Summer, who is still trying to adjust and learn to trust people. At this point, I don't know how long I will have her, and there is a possibility she may become a permanent resident with me. There is also Rambo, who was helped by several people initially, but eventually everyone stepped away and he was left in my care. He is currently with a foster, heartworm negative, great with people, and good with other dogs. Unfortunately, because he is a black pit bull, finding placement for him has been extremely difficult. Then there is Sage, who is with another foster and is still learning to trust humans. She is not accustomed to human touch and requires patience, time, and continued support. These are just three of the dogs that require ongoing food, medical care, supplies, and support. In addition to them, I have other foster dogs, three stray dogs that I feed daily, and my own personal dogs. On top of all that, I am also balancing family responsibilities, caring for my daughter, helping my mom, and dealing with personal family matters. People often think it's easy to say,

I am exhausted, and I am tired of people assuming that one person can be the hero for every single dog. We need more people willing to step up. We need community involvement. We need fosters. We need responsible pet owners. We also need local officials to acknowledge the animal welfare crisis we continue to face here in the Valley. Please continue sharing this dog's story. Please help us find a committed foster, rescue, or adopter willing to open their heart and give him a chance. Dogs are not disposable.
