@beseaadventures: 🤿 Diving with a Giant Pacific Octopus 🐙 Octopus are one of most fascinating creatures on planet earth 🌏. The Giant Pacific Octopus (GPO) is the largest weighing around 15-25 kg on average. The biggest one ever recorded was 270 kg 🤯. They have 8 arms, equipped with 200-300 suckers on each arm. Each arm has a ganglia (it's own brain 🧠 ). Counting their central brain, that makes 9 brains total ‼️ The suckers are individually controlled and have chemical receptors to sense, taste, touch, and smell. An adult GPO is usually 4-5 m in length. Thats the length of a small car 🚗. But some can grow as long as 12 m. That is the size of a school bus 🚌. Giant Pacific Octopus are my favourite sea creature. What is your favourite? #Beseaadventures #Octopus #scubadiver #pnwlife
6 The biggest octopus in the Pacific Northwest is the Giant Pacific Octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini). It is the largest species of octopus in the world. On average, adults weigh about 45 to 115 lbs and stretch about 14 to 16 feet across. However, the largest recorded specimen weighed an astonishing 600 lbs with an arm span of 30 to 32 feet.Insights from Pacific Northwest LocalsLocals and researchers who regularly dive and explore the coastal waters of British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest often share amazing encounters with these massive cephalopods.“It is one thing to see something like that in an aquarium, but from personal experience, it is a completely different feeling seeing in front of you sharing the same space underwater.”AJ BarseTo learn more about where these giants live, you can check out local marine resources like the Vancouver Aquarium or the Seattle Aquarium.Would you like to know the best places to go scuba diving or tide pooling near Maple Ridge to potentially spot a Giant Pacific Octopus, or are you interested in learning about
